Practice Area:

Mr. Ji LIU is the deputy director of the Patent Litigation Department at CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office, managing the business of patent litigation, patent invalidation, administrative litigation, patent search, and general consulting. Mr. Liu graduated from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology with a master’s degree in Material Science in 2001. In the same year, Mr. Liu joined CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office.
Mr. Liu was trained in large German and US firms for the practices in European countries and the US and studied US Intellectual Property Laws at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York in 2013. In the same year, Mr. Liu, as the representative of the All-China Patent Attorneys Association, accompanied the former Commissioner Mr. Tian Lipu to participate in a liaison meeting with the American Bar Association and delivered a speech.
Mr. Liu has been successfully representing more than a thousand patent prosecution cases and dozens of patent litigation and invalidation cases, most of which belong to renowned multinational companies. A civil patent infringement case handled by Mr. Liu was selected as one of the top 10 typical IP cases in Tianjin courts in 2018.

Examples of patent invalidation and litigation cases handled by Mr. Liu in recent years include (but are not limited to):

In 2022, representing a Japanese company in winning an infringement lawsuit before the Guangzhou IP court
In 2021, representing a Japanese company in winning an infringement lawsuit before the Supreme People’s Court
From 2019 to 2022, leading a litigation team and acting as a litigation attorney to provide patent infringement litigation and invalidation services for a Chinese LED industry giant. The damages claimed in the lawsuits from both sides reach 160 million Chinese yuan. These cases involve a series cases of replying to complaints, filing invalidation and counterclaims, and are still in progress.
From 2020 to 2022, leading a litigation team and acting as a litigation attorney to provide patent infringement litigation and invalidation services for a Chinese hot stamping machinery manufacturer. The damages claimed in the lawsuit reach 10 million Chinese yuan. These cases involve a series of replying to complaints, filing counterclaims (anti-unfair competition), and invalidation. We have received successful results in patent invalidation and infringement litigation, but anti-unfair competition litigation is still in progress.
In 2021, representing a Fujian canned food company in responding to an anti- unfair competition case, and forced the other party to withdraw the lawsuit by collecting and presenting overwhelming evidence of good faith.
From 2020 to 2021, leading a litigation team and acting as a litigation attorney to provide patent infringement litigation and invalidation services for a Chinese medical device manufacturer. The patent of the other party was completely invalidated.
In 2019, representing a well-known Shanghai Internet company in winning a patent invalidation case and successfully invalidated a core patent of the competitor.
In 2018, representing a well-known Hangzhou Internet e-commerce company and won a patent infringement lawsuit, and successfully defended its legal rights and interests. The case was selected by the Tianjin Higher People's Court as one of the top 10 typical IP cases in Tianjin courts in 2018.
In 2017-2018, representing a Japanese ink company in the Supreme People's Court retrial litigation and successfully defended all its patent rights.
In 2018, representing a German chemical company in winning a patent invalidation procedure and successfully maintained all claims of an important patent valid.
In 2016, representing a Japanese company in the can manufacturing field in winning a patent invalidation case and successfully invalidated all claims of a core patent of the competitor in China.
In 2016, representing a German chemical company in winning a patent invalidation case and successfully defended its patent right.
