Our Role in the Growth of the Chinese IP System

As the first IP firm in China, we have made a valuable contribution and played a significant role in the birth and growth of the Chinese IP system, becoming a leading IP firm with international fame.

Serving incoming trademark registrations as the sole Chinese agency, being a channel for China's foreign trade and economic cooperation

During the period from 1957 to mid-1980s, authorized by the State Council, we were the only agency serving foreign clients for incoming trademark registrations in China. Besides contributing much to the establishment and improvement of the trademark law system of China, we provided the necessary guarantee to the promotion of the trade and economic cooperation between China and the rest of the world, becoming an important channel of communication therebetween.

Dedicating to the formation of the Chinese patent system and actively serving the Reform and Opening for a better business environment

In the early 1970s, CCPIT filed written opinions with the State Council suggesting establishing a patent system. According to the instruction of the State Council, CCPIT contacted the WIPO, the relevant international associations and the IP Offices of the U.S., Japan, Germany etc., to inquire into the different IP systems, IP laws, practices and requirements for filing through agencies. CCPIT also provided the formal Chinese term “知识产权” for “intellectual property”.

Following the Reform and Opening of 1978, the patent department of CCPIT, one of the predecessors of our firm, worked together with the Patent Office (the predecessor of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA)) to draft the Patent Law and to edify the public. As the first patent agency serving foreign clients in China, we had made efforts to push forward the introduction and innovation of technologies in China. In decades, we have served tens of thousands of domestic and foreign enterprises including fortune 500 enterprises, handled over a million patent and trademark cases, effectively protected the IP assets of both Chinese and foreign enterprises and also have played an important role in promoting a better business environment in China.

Effectively promoting the optimization of the IP law system and improving the protection of IP rights under the law

Over six decades, while actively engaging in the high-level design and the legislation of the IP laws in China, we have represented clients in a large amount of IP cases, which are so influential that they were named “Exemplary Cases of the Year” by authorities such as the Supreme People’s Court, the local courts and the CNIPA. We spare no efforts to promote the improvement of China's IP system and enhance the level of IP protection in China.
