Hangzhou Jinhua Customs: Disposal of 1.8 Million pcs of

Our client Pilot Corporation attaches great importance on Customs intellectual property protection and had four trademarks including “PILOT” recorded in the customs. In order to introduce to the Customs the identification method of the genuine products bearing the recorded trademarks, Mr. Matsuda, Chief of the Intellectual Property Department of Pilot Corporation, paid visit to the Customs in Dalian, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Jinhua, Ningbo, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and obtained high evaluation from the Customs. Till present, batches of infringing goods have been seized by the Customs.
In 2009, Jinhua Customs, which is under the jurisdiction of Hangzhou Customs, seized totally 1802880 pcs of ball pens bearing the trademark “Pilot”, including 1738368 pcs of ball pens bearing the trademark “Pilot” exported to Malaysia by an Import & Export Company in Qingdao and 64512 pcs of ball pens bearing the trademark “Pilot” exported to the Philippines by an Import & Export Company in Qingdao. Upon requests of Pilot Corporation to destruct the seized infringing products and through negotiations with the Customs and many efforts made by our office, Hangzhou Customs destructed the seized 1802880 pcs of infringing ball pens on March 19, 2010.
It is reported that this is one of the cases seizing the largest amount of products infringing the trademark right of Japanese pen manufacturers.
Mr. Qingfa MENG, the Vice President of our office, accompanied Mr. Watanabe, CEO of Pilot Corporation, to visit Hangzhou Customs and Jinhua Customs in June 6 and June 7, 2010 and presented mental plaques to the Customs in order to extend our appreciations to the Customs.
On the afternoon of June 8, 2010 Mr. Ping YU, Vice Chairman of China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) met with Mr. Watanabe, CEO of Pilot Corporation, during his visit in Beijing.
