Patent Applications Received in China 2009 Exceeded 970,000
According to the latest statistics from SIPO, China received a total of 976,686 patent applications in 2009, up 17.9% year on year, among which 877,611 were domestic applications, 89.9% of the total and up by 22.4% over 2008; 99,075 were from abroad, 10.1% of the total and down 10.9% over the previous year.
Among the domestic applications, 229,096 were invention applications, up 17.7% year-on-year; 308,861 were utility model applications, up 37.9%; and 339,654 were designs, up 13.7%; three kinds of the patent applications respectively accounts for 26.1%, 35.2% and 38.7% of the total domestic applications. 483,051 were service invention-creation applications, representing 55% of the total and up 32.6% and 39,456 were non-service invention-creation applications, representing 45% of the total and up 11.9%. Among the service patent applications, 394,299 were from enterprises, representing 86.1% of the total and up 33.4%.
581,992 patent applications were granted by SIPO in 2009, up 41.2%. Among them, 501,786 were granted to domestic applicants, representing 86.2% of the total and up 42.4% and 80,206 to foreign applicants, representing 13.8% of the total and up 34.6%. Among the granted domestic patents, 65,391 were inventions, representing 13% of the total and up 40.4%; Among the granted foreign patents, 63,098 were inventions, representing 78.7% of the total and up 33.9%.
