Trademark Applications Hit 380,000 in First Half of This Year




According to the news from the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, trademark applications in the first half of 2009 reach 380,000, up 7.7%. By June 30, 2009, the total number of the applications for trademark registration reached 6.77 million. There are 2.4 million registered trademarks, ranking first in the world. The number of trademark applications in China has kept the first place in the world for seven years since 2002.

Trademark filings gained its momentum ever since China restored national trademark registration in 1979. The number of trademark applications exploded from 26,000 in 1980 to 766,000 in 2006. In addition, China has become the most designated country in the Madrid Union.
