China's PCT International Applications Ranked sixth in 2008

According to the information on WIPO's website, international patent filings under PCT grew by 2.4% in 2008, to nearly 164,000 applications. Among them, 6089 applications came from China, up 11.9% over the last year. China ranked the sixth in the top ten countries of filing most PCT applications. The United States of America kept in the No. one place with 53521applications. Japan and Germany respectively ranked the second and third with 28774 and 18428 applications, followed by Republic of Korea (7,908), France (6867), China (6089), United Kingdom (5,517), Netherlands (4349), Sweden (4,114), Switzerland (3,832).

In 2008, SIPO as a designated office and an elected office under PCT received 57421 PCT applications entering into a national phase, increasing 3701 applications compared with 2007.
