SIPO Received 694,000 Patent Applications in 2007

In 2007, the State Intellectual Property Office totally received 694,153 patent applications, which represents a yearly increase of 21.1%. Chinese applicants filed 586,734 applications, amounting 84.5% of the total applications received, up 24.7% from 470,342 of 2006. The rest 107,419 applications, amounting 15.5% of the total applications received, were filed by foreigners, up 4.5% from 102,836 of 2006.

245,161 applications were filed for patent for invention, wherein 153,060 applications were filed by Chinese applicants and 92,101 applications were filed by foreign applicants. 181,324 applications were filed for patent for utility modal and 267,668 applications were filed for patent for design.

In 2007, totally 351,782 applications were granted, which represents a yearly increase of 31.35.2%.
