Hitachi and GS Magicstor Settled IPR Disputes Quietly

It was reported that Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) and Chinese hard drive manufacturer South Huitong GS Magistor Inc. (Huitong) settled their IPR disputes quietly in October 2005. This heated IPR dispute case was finally ended within a year.

At the end of 2004, HGST initiated legal proceedings in a US court against Huitong, alleging Huitong's one-inch hard drive violated several of HGST's patents. HGST claimed damages and a permanent injunction barring Huitong and its affiliates from making, importing and selling the products.

Details of the settlement agreement were not disclosed.
