AIC Take Actions against Piracy
In a
raid action taken in July 2005, more than 13,000 pairs of fake Nike
sports shoes with a market value of 5.5 million yuan (US$679,000) were
seized in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
After two month investigation, the Guangdong Provincial Administration
for Industry and Commerce (Guangdong AIC) discovered and destroyed an
underground warehouse full of fake Nike sports shoes hidden in a residential
area.
Early in June, the administration received a complaint lodged by a Nike's
trademark attorney in China complaining circulation of fake Nike sports
shoes in Guangzhou market in large quantity.
Those operating the counterfeiting production fled and the case will
probably be transferred to the police authority for criminal investigation.
Also in July, the administration seized some 1,700 boxes of fake "Shiseido"
cosmetics valued at 40 million yuan (US$4.9 million) in a raid on an
unauthorized factory in the city. The factory counterfeited almost the
full range of "Shiseido" products.
In 2004, the administration seized more than 6,000 pairs of fake Nike
sports shoes and sportswear of other brand names, such as "Adidas".
